Last day! I was really successful with it today. This system has been working really well, but I think I might need to adapt it on days that I work. I feel much more successful and motivated when I don't have distractions, and I really enjoy the independence I feel from my phone even more now.
I had work again today, so I did what I have been doing on nights that I work. I give my brain a little break, and then I just put away my phone for the rest of the night. It is working pretty well, but nights that I work, are just much harder for me to be successful.
To make up for yesterday, and because I had so much homework, I did 4 1 hour sessions throughout the afternoon of no phone/ distractions. Today went super well, and I felt so productive. It was one of the first days this semester that I got to all the goals I wanted to.
Today was a super busy day! I had the gym, lunch with a friend, another climate change event at the library, and then work. I didn't really have time to just waste time on my phone, but that also meant I didn't have time for homework. The way that I adapted to do my project was after I got home from work, I set my alarms for the next day, and didn't use my phone for the rest of the night. This helped me get to sleep easier and gave me time to read.
Fridays are harder because I don't have anything due, so I don't usually have the discipline to do my homework on Fridays. What I did was that I picked one thing from my list of things I needed to this weekend, and put away my phone for 1 hour. I actually finished it in less than an hour, but I wanted to keep my routine and find something else to do for the last 25 mins. It gave me a chance to pick up my room, which was really helpful going in to the weekend! I learned that it was nice to just get away from the distractions of technology even if it's not for homework.
This was my first real successful day! I got home from the gym at 5:30, did homework without my phone until 6:30, took a break around dinner time, and then finished all my homework by 8. I found that breaking up my time and being strict about it, really helped. I really connected my success to discipline vs. motivation like we learned about in class.
My Project: To Mise En Place my life, I will be focusing on my phone usage. I have found that I spend way too much time after school on my phone, Youtube, or Netflix. This has caused unnecessary stress and procrastination. I will be intentionally turning my notifications off and leaving my phone away from me for 1 hour after school. I will then give myself a short break (because my brain can't work for super long periods of time without breaks), and then return to my system for another hour (or however long it takes to finish my homework.) Day 1- Today was hard, because I didn't get off work until about 10:00. This meant that when I got home I was 1) exhausted, and 2) very short of time that I had to do homework. Because I was so tired, and my brain had just been "on" for 12+ hours, I needed a brain break. I allowed myself 1 episode of Gilmore girls, then set my alarms and set my phone on my nightstand for the rest of the night. I know this was a little out of order, but I really needed to let my brain relax before I did chemistry labs or humanities essays. I found that it was much easier to focus after I put my phone away and just finished all my homework at once. (but only after my break ;) )
